Fibre, it’s good for helping you poo! Is there more to it?
Fibre, it’s good for helping you poo! Is there more to it?
The short answer is, yes! It does so much more than brighten your morning routine! Fibre is indigestible so your body cannot break it down, instead it travels through your system and out of the other side.
Why is this a good thing? The lack of digestion means that fibre provides almost no calories to your daily intake, yet it still gives you a feeling of fullness, great if you are on a calorie controlled diet. Lack of calories and the feeling of fullness means the pounds will be dropping off in no time!
But that’s not all!
Fibre also slows the breakdown of the starchy parts of carbohydrate rich foods, slowing the release of glucose into the bloodstream. This will help you to avoid crashes and cravings, again very useful for weight loss.
Fibre has also been shown to help prevent certain types of cancers and cardio vascular diseases, this is due to the connection between the gut and the immune system. A happy gut means a health immune system.

Foods such as wheat bran, whole grain pasta, broccoli and fruits like avocados, apples and dates are all high in fibre. Whole foods are best as processed food contains less and is generally higher in calories. So if you are not already including fibre in your diet it’s time to start, if nothing else your bottom will thank you!
